WE R1 was formed in 2010 by combining two successful programs – East Coast Elite and Team NJABC. Matt Pauls (Team NJABC), Terrell Myers (East Coast Elite) and Ron Martin (ECE/DE Panthers) realized they had a shared vision on how to run a top grassroots basketball program; the vision was to create a program that focused on developing young people into positive contributors to society, using basketball as the point of contact, while also using the investment of time, life experience, and patience to positively develop young people.
WE R1 has many past and future college student-athletes in the program, ranging from high-major D1 players to D3 players, from Big Ten/ACC/Big East/Ivy/Patriot/American Athletic/MAAC/West Coast talent to top Division 3 programs. WE R1 competes at most national events all over the country each Spring/Summer as well as currently playing on the Under Armour Grassroots Circuit (UAA Association). WE R1 has kids from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania

IMPROTANT ASPECT OF OUR PROGRAM – ICE ACADEMY
Through our ICE Academy (Individual Character Enhancement Academy) players will learn and understand the importance of their education. With this in mind, players will be expected to participate in mandatory programs to keep their education at the forefront of their existence (i.e., S.A.T Prep Sessions, Reading Assignments, Seminars, Tutoring/Mentoring Sessions, etc.). Our belief is we must instill in them that positive reinforcement and repetition creates consistency (in the classroom & on the basketball court). They must learn that any success will be due to the positive repetition of basic and advanced behavioral skills. Our Educational Tutors/Mentors establish relationships with each student athlete and parent(s) to ensure student athletes are getting the assistance they need.
